Introduction

Eric and Pete are at a café and they’re talking about sports and exercise. In this dialogue you will learn the names of many different sports and vocabulary related to games and sports.

Dialogue

Eric

  Hi Pete.

Pete

  Hi Eric.

Eric

Did you see the football match on t.v. last night?

Pete

Yes! Sommerly was a much better team than Divan.

Eric

I agree. Their last goal was fantastic.

Pete

  Are you still playing football?

Eric

No, this year I’m playing basketball.

Pete

  Oh really? That’s great!

Eric

  And you?

Pete

I prefer individual sports. I like running and cycling.

Eric

  How often do you run?

Pete

Twice a week. I usually run about 10 miles.

Eric

Good for you! Have you ever run in any races?

Pete

Yes, last summer I ran in a 10 km race. It wasn’t hard because I trained a lot before I did it.

Eric

Great! I prefer team sports. I like to play with other people and I am quite competitive. My favorite sports are football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and rugby.

Pete

I like watching individual sports on t.v. In the Olympics my favorite sports to watch are gymnastics, swimming, tennis and athletics.

Eric

I like tennis too. Let’s play sometime!

Pete

  Okay, great!
