What's Jason's new house like? In the dialogue below about a moving day, you will learn vocabulary related to the house and furniture and typical phrases between friends.

Introduction

Jason has just moved to a new house. He loves it, especially the big garden. But right now he has boxes piled up in almost every room. He needs some help putting away his things and getting organized so he has asked a couple friends to come over today.

I’m Jason and I just moved to a new house.
  I’m Sam.
  I’m Peter.

Dialogue

Jason

  Hi guys! How are you?

Sam

  Good. How about you?

Jason

  Fine. Just a bit tired.

Peter

Wow! I really like your new house. What a cool neighborhood!

Jason

Yeah, thanks. I’m looking forward to going to the cafés and riding my bike along the lake. The house just needs a fresh coat of paint in most rooms.

Sam

So, what can we do to help?

Jason

First, I need to carry this bed upstairs.

Sam

I can help you. This bed is a lot bigger than mine.

Jason

I used to have a single bed but in this new house I have a much bigger bedroom so I bought this bigger one.

Peter

Is there something I can do?

Jason

I can’t reach that shelf. You’re taller than me. Can you put this picture up there?

Peter

  Of course!

In the kitchen…

Sam

Where do you want me to put these plates?

Jason

  In that cabinet.

Peter

And in which drawer should I put these tablecloths?

Jason

You can put them in this one.

Peter

This kitchen is much more spacious than your old one.

Jason

Yes, I’m going to do a lot more cooking here.

Later on…

Sam

It’s already 3 o’clock. I’ve got to go to work.

Peter

And I need to meet my mom in about half an hour.

Jason

Thanks a million for your help today! I’ll buy you two dinner this weekend.

Sam

  Sounds great!

Jason

Are you free on Saturday evening?

Sam

  Yes, after 6 pm.

Peter

  I’m free all day Saturday.

Jason

Perfect. Let’s meet at 6:30 pm here on Saturday and we’ll walk to one of the restaurants nearby.

Sam

  Fantastic!

Peter

  Okay, thanks! See you then.
