Where is Jim going to travel this summer? Read the following dialogue between Jim and Rachel to learn vocabulary related to traveling, transportation and how to express future plans.

Introduction

Jim is very excited about his plans for this summer and he is telling his friend Rachel all about them.

Dialogue

Jim

  Hi Rachel!

Rachel

  Hi Jim! How are you?

Jim

I’m really excited! I’m preparing a trip to Europe this summer.

Rachel

That sounds fantastic! Who are you going to travel with?

Jim

With my cousin Sam. We both have a month off so we are going to backpack across Europe together.

Rachel

  How old is Sam?

Jim

  We’re the same age.

Rachel

Perfect! You’re going to travel by train, aren’t you?

Jim

  Yes, that’s right!

Rachel

Which countries are you going to visit?

JIm

We hope to go to Spain, France and Italy.

Rachel

And where are you going to stay?

Jim

We’ll be staying in youth hostels. We can’t afford to stay in hotels.

Rachel

Yeah, youth hostels are usually clean and inexpensive.

Jim

Also, Sam’s friend from university who is studying in Madrid has offered to put us up in her apartment for a few days.

Rachel

That’s cool! You can speak Spanish, can’t you?

Jim

Not really. But Sam speaks really well.

Rachel

Do you speak any other languages?

Jim

I took French in high school, but I only have a basic level.

Rachel

That’s okay. There’s always someone who speaks English.

Jim

I think that’s the case in big cities and tourist areas, but not in small villages.

Rachel

  That’s true.

Jim

Anyway, I have to go to work. Great to see you!

Rachel

You too. Have a fantastic trip!

Jim

Look at my pictures on Instagram!

Rachel

  Okay, I will!
